Scuba Steve goes to Mexico

Scuba Steve Blog - Yucatan region of Mexico

Off the shelf and off to Mexico:

Having to travel in a suitcase with enough wires and charges to do myself some serious damage, and only a dried ant from a previous trip as food was a bit of a setback. I can't see why the camera got to travel in the hand luggage; I know I am a bit weighty

but no need to put me on a starvation diet; apparently I weigh the equivalent of two pairs of shoes, but I can’t see what the problem is!

Hey but it was worth it: Sun, Sand, and scantily clad Barbies everywhere I look.

I know there's towels on all the deck chairs but the one they got me is seriously iffy!

My buddy left me behind on the first dive; said she wanted to check it out; not impressed but at least I could go snorkeling; I like Debs she takes care of me.

Maggs won't let me borrow her camera can't see what the problem is!

She says I might break it, - is she kidding, from what

I hear she has broken more than I have had hot dinners!

At least I get to join in the diving and Wow! Wow! Wow!, Cenote diving or should I say flying -awesome!

Got a day off tomorrow so thought we would hit the cocktails tonight; I can't believe it takes me five times as long to drink mine compared to how everyone else is knocking them back!

Wake up buddy you don't want to sleep out here, those geckoes will get you.

Apparently we needed to take in some local culture, I wanted to soak up some rays and take in the scenery on the beach but thought I had better make the effort, and to be honest was quite impressed; those Mayans were quit something, every time they wanted to impress the gods they would kill the wining team of the local 'sports' tournament; their idea of pretty was to file or drill their daughters teeth and stick gems in them, and to bind their babies' heads to change the shape of their skulls!! Hey and because they didn't have mobile phones they built pyramids to tell the date and time.

I can't believe the hotel staff knew I was here; got back to the room and they had made this donkey especially for me.

The sea diving is better than I expected, after a shaky start having to get on board in the surf and a bumpy ride to the dive site I was impressed with the vis and the amount of fish life:

I was a bit worried I was going to be breakfast for the Great Baracuda; my buddy is more interested in her cameras than looking after me!             My buddies:

I was a bit sad to see the lion fish being killed by George our guide, but when he explained they are not native to the region and are eating the juvenile native species (as well as multiplying rapidly) it made much more sense, funny though seeing the chase as to who would get there first one of the guys with a camera or George.

Dave with his new

headmounted video; like something out of Doctor Who me thinks!

Not looking forward to the journey. Home, it's into the suitcase (it better be the one with the clean stuff in!), and then back on the shelf for me!

Hey I nearly forgot - does this color suit me?
